Punch With Style

#Logan wooldridge

I was born and raised in Central New York State.  In my early childhood I was fascinated by warrior cultures & martial arts, as they gave me a lens through which to understand and cope with the situations and environments in which I found myself.  Through many difficulties I continued to study martial arts while growing up, by the time I was 20 I began writing my own training and nutrition programs.  It was then I began studying resistance training (lifting, calisthenics, etc.) and nutrition from more academic sources while designing and running my own training programs and weekly meal plans. All the while working in many fields (such as contracting, kitchens, retail, & manufacturing) and spending a few summers hiking and camping along the Appalachian Trail  (checking in weekly with close friends). In the last couple of years I have settled in Southern Vermont, earned several certifications from NASM and set up this website to share my continued adventures: hiking, building a homestead and offering 1-on-1 personal training and nutrition coaching.

#Steven parkis

My name is Steven Parkis, I am the web editor and support here at Martial Forest.

I grew up in a sheltered, Christian household, and at a young age, I experienced a severe brain injury along with trauma and abuse. Despite these challenges, I still had many good experiences during my childhood. However, as I got older, I began coping with these painful experiences in ways that trapped me in a cycle of trauma, mental health struggles, and addiction. I was angry and combative, wrestling with emotions I didn’t fully understand. In my teens, I turned to drugs and drifted from one job to another—working in construction, auto mechanics, and cooking—while going through the motions and barely holding it together.
Eventually, the weight of it all would become too much, and I’d end up in jail or rehab. I cycled through various programs and even had several unintentional overdoses before starting the process all over again. By the time I truly decided to get clean and change my life, I felt completely out of control and unable to create lasting change.
After committing myself fully to one final program and genuinely working with the tools I was given, I was able to gain a measure of control over my life. I finally found ways to manage my mental health and addiction, from there, everything began to change. I started learning about the body, the mind, and different spiritual beliefs and paths. Today, I am a certified regressive hypnotist and am pursuing additional certifications in wellness services.
As I continue to learn and grow, my goal here at Martial Forest is to share the experiences and tools that have helped me making them accessible and understandable for others on their own wellness journey.
